Welcome
This is an archive of The Icarus Project, a grassroots organization dedicated to diversifying the language of mental health beyond the realms of Western psychiatry and psychology. We also sought to create spaces where people could talk freely about their lived experiences with altered mental states. Jacks McNamara and Sascha Altman DuBrul founded The Icarus Project in 2002, and hundreds of leaders, volunteers, members, donors, scholars, and other allies sustained the organization for 18 years. In 2020, The Icarus Project ended; and its leadership formally rename the organization The Fireweed Collective.
